“Life Lessons…one Disney Movie Line at a time.”
I think that the people I meet these days can tell right away what my passions are – my Lord, my boys, my friends and family, and all things Disney. And life certainly has a way of changing at lightning speed once your kids are born, a blessing I wouldn’t change for anything.
But I – “Big Al” – had a life BK (Before Kids), too. Let me provide some background: I was a bit of a dare devil and would try almost anything once – para-sailing, bungee jumping, and skydiving were among my many adventures. I’d also jump on whatever crazy carnival ride graced the Wal-Mart parking lot – a thought that now can make me want to throw up.
I was also a bit of a free spirit, and although I always handled my responsibilities, I was constantly up for a road trip or whatever opportunity knocked at my door. My friends knew that they’d never know what to expect when we were hanging out, but they knew we’d always have fun.
I was obsessed with running and working out. I like to tell myself that if I dug through all the junk in my trunk, there’s still a hot little body somewhere in there – LOL! I lived in a town full of awesome music and spent a lot of time supporting my favorite bands. It was a time of being footloose and fancy free.
But my life dramatically changed when I moved into the toughest “hood” of all – Motherhood – and my BK life came to a screeching halt. No longer was I living life for myself. Now I had a higher purpose and a much greater responsibility, not to just take care of my boys, but also myself. I feel I owe it to them to be here on earth as long as I can. Don’t get me wrong – my life is by no means boring now. It’s just that the adventures have changed in speed and style. Instead of a convertible, I drive a minnie van that can hold up to seven passengers. Instead of jumping off platforms, I jump in mud puddles. And I pray I stay inside planes instead of free falling out of them.
So while my BK life was lots of fun and full of crazy stunts, in the words of Jack Sparrow (who I find super hot by the way!), “Did everyone see that? Because I will *not* be doing it again.”
